February 13th, 2008 · No Comments

Raking in almost $340 million bucks from last year’s record shattering tour hasn’t slowed The (reunited) Police, who are prepping one final summer jaunt across the US before retiring for good. Or at least until its time to rob fans blind again and build more castles. The band is planning to play amphitheaters and [...]

January 22nd, 2008 · 67 Comments

Since Paul Weller has come down with a nasty case of principles, his remaining two ex-bandmates in The Jam have reunited under the catchy moniker From the Jam: Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler. The leftover duo has recruited some anonymous scabs Hugh Cornwell of The Stranglers two replacements to fill in for Weller on [...]

The Magnetic Fields plan tour

November 5th, 2007 · No Comments

With its new record, Distortion, out in January via Nonesuch, The Magnetic Fields have set up a brief tour to help spread the word. The dates are slim pickins, but at least they are playing multiple shows in each town- said towns just happen to be very, very far away from the South.

Trail of Dead to tour college campuses with cartoon band

October 16th, 2007 · No Comments

…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead is set to embark on yet another round of touring for its under-achieving, fifth long-player, So Divided, which has been on shelves the better part of a year. The band is hitting colleges with Adult Swim’s fictional metal band, Dethklok from Metalocalypse fame, whose debut record The Dethalbum [...]

Murder By Death album news

October 15th, 2007 · 4 Comments

Bloomington, Indiana’s Murder By Death may be slow to get new records out, but the band plays no shortage of shows. The non-stop touring has to take its toll at some point. I can’t imagine being able to write new material in such a draining, repetitive environment, but the band just released a statement on [...]

Murder By Death performs intimate in-store in Lansing, MI

September 21st, 2007 · No Comments

Murder By Death played the Flat, Black and Circular record store in Lansing, MI, last year, supporting its third full-length, In Bocca Al Lupo. This low-key performance of “Dynamite Mine” puts much more emphasis on the inherent tension of Turla’s doom-country stomp compared to the fiery dynamics of the full band’s electric show.

Avengers reunite, tour

September 17th, 2007 · No Comments

Famous mainly for opening for the Sex Pistols at Winterland on the last date of the Pistols’ first American tour, The Avengers were as punk rock as you could get. The band never even released an album during its life span, which was only about two years (1977-1979). The band’s rudimentary punk sparked [...]

Goths bone up on UV-protecting white face paint as The Cure reschedules tour dates for spring

September 13th, 2007 · No Comments

The Cure has rescheduled the tour dates it recently canceled because Fat Bob was a little behind on his word count, which in turn caused a delay in the band’s 13th studio album meeting its fall release date. So, now both the record and the tour will coincide like they’re supposed to this coming spring. [...]

"Misfits" anniversary tour

September 7th, 2007 · 7 Comments

In pathetic reunion news, a very loose quotes version of the “Misfits” is kicking off a special anniversary tour. And by special, I mean shitty. This incarnation of the band features only one original member, bassist Jerry Only backed by former Black Flag members Dez Cadena and Robo. Erstwhile vocalist, Glenn Danzig, must have lost [...]

PJ Harvey “When Under Ether” Mp3

August 30th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I’m little frightened by PJ Harvey. Always have been. But the fear is mixed with a healthy obsession. A good combination to be sure. Her new record, White Chalk, is out next month on Island, and the first single is an extremely stripped-down affair. Harvey pushes her voice almost to a high-pitched whisper, [...]

Billboard has unveiled the track lists for the upcoming Bob Dylan retrospectives, which are set for an Oct. 2 release in the states. Also in the cue is the documentary, The Other Side of the Mirror, which collects rare and unseen footage from Dylan’s popular and polarizing performances at the Newport Folk Festivals from 1963-65. Mark Ronson responds to Portishead dis

August 21st, 2007 · No Comments

Myspace blogs have been so catty lately. In all fairness Portishead’s Geoff Barrow took the first shot at Lily Allen producer Mark Ronson, completely unprovoked. And now producer Ronson has responded in kind, albeit somewhat more respectfully seeing as how he actually gives Barrow some credit:
Dear Geoffrey
In reference to your blog insulting my “muzak”, grow the fuck up [...]

Mission of Burma reissue campaign, tour dates

August 16th, 2007 · 3 Comments

Mission of Burma was one of those bands I never thought I’d have the chance to see live. They’d broken up well before I was even aware of them, so when news started spreading that the band was reuniting back in 2002, I was hesitant, skeptical, yet also kind of excited. Reunions are almost always a [...]

Rogue Wave “Lake Michigan” Mp3

August 13th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Rogue Wave’s new record, Asleep at Heaven’s Gate is out September 18 on Brushfire Records. “Lake Michigan” sounds remarkably like The Shins with its simultaneously chirpy yet maudlin acoustic melodicism, replete with over-arching harmonies and hand-claps. Better than expected but not blowing me away.
