Depeche Mode “Wrong” live at Echo Awards

Depeche Mode debuted its new single, “Wrong”, at the Echo Awards in Germany this past weekend. It’s sort of a gimmicky Martin Gore composition, but it sounds not unlike Depeche Mode’s recent musical trajectory. Not sure how “live” the drums are in this clip, but Dave Gahan sounds like he’s really singing. May take a few more listens to grab me, but it’s a decent, if mechanically consistent, offering. Stereogum’s commenters are surprisingly enthusiastic, almost to the point of seeming like record label plants. The DM website offers the myriad ways one can own the new album in all its fancy forms. Meh. Not very interesting. I know they can do better. Is that too much to ask?
