Of Montreal + MGMT cover Nirvana + “Id Engager” video

Even though my partner here at the Drawer still has no use for Of Montreal, I’m highly anticipating the upcoming release of Skeletal Lamping, as the band’s previous effort, Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?, was my favorite album of 2007. At the Of Montreal show the other night in NYC, Kevin Barnes was joined on stage by Andrew from MGMT to perform a bizarro version of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” [via You Aint No Picasso]:

And since we’re I’m totally gay for Of Montreal today, here’s the video for Skeletal Lamping’s first single, “Id Engager”:

I wish that I could get into Of Montreal. It’s not for a lack of effort. I listened to Hissing Fauna a handful of times but it never hooked me. I recognize that Kevin Barnes is pretty much a musical genius, he’s just not my cup of tea, I suppose.

I’m completely gay for Of Montreal, and how could I resist such an absurd and colourful video! I’ll admit it took me a couple of attempts at Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? to really get into it, but its grown on me! Not so sure about this cover though…

K, I feel your pain. There are an assortment of bands I feel like I should like…but I don’t. Sonic Youth is at the top of that list.
