Radiohead covers Bjork’s “Unravel” in ‘testcast’
November 9th, 2007 · 1 Comment
Radiohead released a testcast last night in anticipation of a forthcoming webcast. After some behind the scenes hijinks, which included some DJ-ing and weird graphical interludes, the band performed Bjork’s “Unravel” live in a studio. It’s Thom Yorke’s favorite song of all time. The proper webcast is scheduled for tonight between 9pm and 12am (GMT).

Hideously awful cover of Nirvana’s ubiquitous hit proves that music does indeed cross all cultural barriers, even when it sounds like shit. (via Guardian)

Elvis Costello reunites with Clover for charity
November 8th, 2007 · No Comments
Clover, the little-known backing band that played on Elvis Costello’s debut, My Aim Is True, some thirty years ago is reuniting with Costello for the first time since they all left the studio when the album wrapped. The cause is for Costello’s long-time friend and fellow musician, Austin De Lone, whose son suffers from “Prader-Willi [...]

Arctic Monkeys “Teddy Picker” video
November 8th, 2007 · 7 Comments
Arctic Monkeys take a subtle shot at miming in videos with a live-in-the-studio version of “Teddy Picker” off Favourite Worst Nightmare. This video destroys the borderline un-ironic piss-take that was the “Brainstorm” video. Christ, that was a mess. Still, Alex Turner is hands-down one of the cleverest lyricists going. This record has remained in my [...]

New My Bloody Valentine music by year’s end?
November 7th, 2007 · 2 Comments
More less-than-reliable news has surfaced claiming that things might be brewing in the My Bloody Valentine camp. Billboard is sourcing the Daily Swarm with the scoop that Kevin Shields has indirectly confirmed that My Bloody Valentine will release new music by the end of this year. He appeared in an interview segment with The [...]
Pete Doherty upset heroin video leaked
November 7th, 2007 · No Comments
News of Pete Doherty’s recent “recovery” from drug addiction was taken with exaggerated rolls of the eyes the world over. It was more than a little disingenuous to expect people to buy news that Britain’s most willfully notorious junkie was suddenly all cleaned up. Doherty has forced cynicism upon his press with blatant and comical setbacks [...]

Prince thanks fans for their support with legal threats
November 7th, 2007 · No Comments
Prince is an asshole. I’ve never heard of a celebrity who made it so difficult to be a fan. He won’t even let his fans call themselves fans. They’re “fams.” Now he’s threatening to sue said “fams” for posting pictures their tattoos if they bear his royal likeness. What a cock. I realize Prince has always restricted access [...]

Name your own price, for Paste
November 6th, 2007 · No Comments
Taking a cue from Radiohead’s “name your price” In Rainbows stunt, Paste Magazine is offering a similar deal for a one-year subscription (min: $1). Economists would tell you that paying anything more than you are required is foolish; but what do they know.

Morrissey’s current band is the next best thing to a Smiths reunion
November 5th, 2007 · No Comments
I finally lost my Morrissey virginity last night in Greenville, SC after having missed him countless times over the years, and it was so well worth the wait. I was expecting a far less energetic performance for some reason (maybe since Ringleader of the Tormentors lacked the punch of You Are the Quarry). But his [...]

November 5th, 2007 · No Comments
“…the 85+ recorded covers of Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart” is mapped in relation to the original recordings by the band. Although available information was limited, the graph is data rich in representing time since original recording, recording artist, release name/date and label. Various graphical techniques employed (eg. radiating dots) allowed for data [...]

Parlophone isn’t just going to sit back and watch Radiohead rake in all the money now that the band has jettisoned the mothership. The Magnetic Fields plan tour
November 5th, 2007 · No Comments
With its new record, Distortion, out in January via Nonesuch, The Magnetic Fields have set up a brief tour to help spread the word. The dates are slim pickins, but at least they are playing multiple shows in each town- said towns just happen to be very, very far away from the South.

Of Montreal “Gronlandic Edit” video
November 2nd, 2007 · No Comments
Deliberately amateurish cartoon psychedelia doesn’t quite cover how wildly abnormal this video. It looks like decades-old homemade cut and paste art- stilted and trippy in its androgynous ambiguity. Its non-linear storyline feeds off randomness and eccentricity as much as the song itself does. This is the highlight of Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? for [...]

WTF: Simian Mobile Disco “Hustler” video

This video is beyond insane. Bikini-clad models prance on a stage, gorging on ketchup, cash, and jewelry, climaxing in a slow-motion montage of neon puke. Awesome.

Amy Winehouse warbles through shaky MTV Europe performance
November 2nd, 2007 · 1 Comment
Jesus, this is painful to sit through. Winehouse stumbles through the title track of her second album with amateurish, off-key rambles, awkward dance moves, and a general dazed look in her eyes. Granted, none of it was too far from normal for her, but this was clearly far from her best day. You’d think by [...]

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Never Mind the Bollocks, a reunited Sex Pistols played Jay Leno last night, which is punk as fuck, obviously. And this candy-ass version of “Anarchy in the UK” makes Motley Crue’s utter shit version sound like vintage punk. (via Brooklyn Vegan)
