Punk as fuck: Sex Pistols shill for video game

Posted September 25th, 2007 by eric

Those who suck at Guitar Hero may have cause to rejoice with the news that the Sex Pistols have re-recorded their quintessential hit “Anarchy in the UK” for inclusion in the third installment of the video game series. Sloppy punk should be a bit easier than the typical metal fare. Evidently, the band’s record company has up and lost the masters to Never Mind the Bollocks, and Guitar Hero III steps away from the lame cover versions used in earlier versions of the game. So, the video game lords asked the band to re-record their best known song. 3/4’s of the original line-up turned up with Bollocks producer Chris Thomas playing bass. For legitimacy’s sake, the band is quick to point out that Thomas actually played bass on the original, as Glen Matlock had been fired at that point, while Sid Vicious was in the hospital for Hepatitis treatment. But, as Steve Jones deadpans, the latter “couldn’t play anyway.” Indeed. Here’s the full interview.
