Death to Snow Patrol

Posted August 20th, 2007 by eric

After Nicky Wire of the Manic Street Preachers recently came down hard on Snow Patrol, it reminded how much I, too, despise that band. I’ve witnessed few bands make such a concerted effort to be the soundtrack to Grey’s Anatomy. Barring the sappy, unlistenable ballad “Run”, 2004’s Final Straw actually had some decent songs. You could tell the band listened to good music with threads of everything from Sebadoh to My Bloody Valentine running throughout it. But on Eyes Open– an embarrassingly blatant sell-out of a record, Snow Patrol clings to every schmaltzy cliché imaginable, almost as though its writing for a place in some sorority girl’s CD collection. It’s the audio equivalent of a slow-motion montage, and Steven King should be ashamed of himself for having such crap taste.

I can forgive King’s mention of “Chasing Cars” because of his praise for Josh Ritter, an extremely underrated singer-songwriter.

Come on. Someone needs to supply the Grey’s Anatomy type music. Check the post about Snow Patrol at RickRedux.com.
