In a recent interview with The Word magazine, former Smiths and current Modest Mouse guitarist Johnny Marr spoke of being approached by Warner Bros. about curating a Smiths box set. At first Marr was standoffish about the prospect until he was shown a profusion of material:
“There are some curios, instrumentals, a few odd films shot by people on these enormous old video cameras on the balcony at gigs in Wolverhampton in the 80s they are really impressive, they’d make great DVDs. There’s the Troy Tate album (the first, scrapped Smiths album), which is a really interesting sound and a great picture of the band at a time when most people aren’t aware of us.”
Evidently, he and Morrissey have discussed the prospect recently, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility. (via The Tripwire)
