New Rilo Kiley due in August

Rilo Kiley’s fourth album, Under the Blacklight, will be released on August 20. Initially, I was totally bored by Rilo Kiley, as their first two records just seemed to blend in with generic by the numbers indie rock, but More Adventurous revealed a much improved pop sensibility and penchant for hooks, and Jenny Lewis’ voice just sounded stronger and more confident. And on her solo album, Rabbit Fur Coat, even more so. So, I’m mildly intrigued as to what the new record might sound like. Evidently, it’s a thematic set of character sketches with tracks called “Money Maker” and “Breaking Up.”
