RETRO: Polvo “Vibracobra” video

Its off-kilter brand of dissonant, intricate math-rock ruled college radio in the early 90’s. Despite respectable efforts by current indie flavors like Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke claiming that Polvo’s Exploded Drawing is his favorite album of all time, the band’s star has all but faded from glory. Wait, Exploded Drawing? Over Today’s Active Lifestyles or the even the Celebrate the New Dark Age triple 7″? Okereke is nuts. But we do agree that the world needs more Polvo.

I know former Polvo guitarist Dave Brylawski and bassist Steve Popson are now in Chapel Hill’s Black Taj, which is sort of a psychedelic inversion of Polvo’s esoteric artfulness. But Polvo leader Ash Bowie has been awfully quiet as of late, releasing his lone solo recording way back in 2000 as Libraness. The last anyone heard, he was playing guitar in the collective, Fan Modine.
