Cloaked in sunglasses and a silly hat, white trash’s shining star, Britney Spears, gets all satirical on tabloids, her managment, and world in general. I’m sort of astounded she knows how to be sarcastic.

Bryan Ferry feels heat from Nazi comments
April 16th, 2007 · No Comments
Roxy Music frontman Bryan Ferry gave an interview with Germany’s Welt Am Sonntag newspaper last month, in which he stated: “The way that the Nazis staged themselves and presented themselves, my Lord! I’m talking about the films of Leni Riefenstahl and the buildings of Albert Speer and the mass marches and the flags — [...]

Amy Winehouse tickets on eBay for $600 and up
April 16th, 2007 · No Comments
We love Amy Winehouse as much as the next guy, but this is ridiculous. I know she’s not touring much in the US, so spaces are limited. But $600? No effing way.
And some hopeful fool is asking $999 for two tickets to her Chicago show at Schubas. What? I wouldn’t pay that much to [...]

Metric’s Emily Haines announces UK solo dates
April 16th, 2007 · No Comments
After Metric’s latest audio turd, Live It Out, it’s no wonder Emily Haines is getting something else lined up, just in case.
Her debut solo record Knives Don’t Have Your Back is out June 4 with a single, “Doctor Blind”, preceeding it on may 21.
Echo & The Bunnymen resigns with Korova/Warner Bros.
April 16th, 2007 · No Comments
Resigning with the label that put out all the classics, Echo & The Bunnymen “are chuffed to bits about returning to our old roots…it’s fantastic to be working on the album having just resigned to ‘Korova / Warners’; the new album is going to be amazing, and we can’t wait to get it finished.”
Even though [...]
REVIEW: LCD Soundsystem, Sound of Silver, DFA/EMI
April 13th, 2007 · No Comments
James Murphy wears his flawless, meticulously organized,
hipper-than-your record collection brazenly on his sleeve. He’s a DJ, so this is a matter of course. You expect as much from someone who makes a public display of his ability to amuse you with his records. What’s less obvious is that since Murphy paid such close attention to [...]

Fred Durst even further displaced from reality than previously thought
April 13th, 2007 · No Comments
Some times schadenfreude is good. Fred Durst has finally hit the bottom of the pile of white trash he came from, and he doesn’t even know it yet. It might be sad, if Durst weren’t such an opportunistic, fame-hungry blockhead. Rap/rock has gone the way of acid-washed jeans, and everyone knows this except the poster boy [...]

Sonic Youth expands Daydream Nation for June release
April 12th, 2007 · No Comments
Geffen will release a two disc expansion of Sonic Youth’s seminal Daydream Nation on June 12th packed with rare pictures and bonus tracks. Seems like this should have preceeded both the Goo and Dirty deluxe reissues, but I’m not complaining. The vinyl version will be released on the band’s Goofin’ Records as a four-LP set.
According to Billboard, [...]

What you need to know about Poni Hoax
April 11th, 2007 · No Comments
I don’t know how I overlooked Poni Hoax’s debut on Tigersushi. It’s probably because it came in a slip-sleeve case, and I always lose those things. Anyway, after my rediscovery I found this “presentation” on Youtube, which gives you an idea of how suave and bizarrely cool this band is. Dark-wave disco with pretentiously monotone [...]

Guns N’ Roses post-pone Japanese tour; water still wet
April 11th, 2007 · No Comments
Former Replacement and current hired Gun (pun intended), Tommy Stinson, apparently “accidentally fell down a flight of stairs“, spraining his wrist.
Stinson explains, “I feel so bad right now…I put my hand down to break my fall and heard a loud ‘pop.’ The next morning my hand looked like a balloon.”
So the tour is post-poned? [...]

Another Pixies tribute album due in November
April 11th, 2007 · No Comments
Mogwai will cover “Gauge Away” on Dig For Fire: A Pixies Tribute along with contributions from British Sea Power and J Mascis, which should be worlds better than the shitty pop-punk one from 1999 on Glue Factory records.

Bloc Party talks more shit
April 11th, 2007 · No Comments
After a whiny, completely disappointing second record, Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke is starting to get some edge back.
First, he trashed Oasis pretty thoroughly after Noel Gallager called Bloc Party a bunch of nerds, and now he’s laying into Pete Doherty- an easy target, admittedly, but one that never fails to amuse. Said Okereke, [...]
The Walkmen’s "Red River" stream from Spiderman 3
April 10th, 2007 · No Comments
I am admittedly puzzled by Spiderman 3’s decision to go indie for the its latest soundtrack, since the franchise has successfully slummed through unlistenable nonsense like Nickelback and Hoobastank on previous compilations with enough fanfare to ignore the little guys.
I guess some remotely tuned-in staffer decided it was time to cater to the Subterranean [...]

Sly Stone beats odds and shows up for Vegas show
April 10th, 2007 · No Comments
On March 31, 2007, Sly Stone actually showed up at the Flamingo in Las Vegas and played a 30 minute set. This is news for two reasons: 1. Sly Stone rarely shows up for scheduled concerts; 2. Vegas bookmakers had it as a longshot with odds at 45-1.
And then, according to comedien George Wallace, who [...]

Vince Neil’s Motley Cruise
April 10th, 2007 · No Comments
This is just too amazing not to comment on. Wow. Bad pun and everything. Who knew Motley Crue members were so desperate for cash? First, Tommy Lee shamlessly agreed to appear on Rock Star Supernova, and now Vince Neil is partnering with Carnival Cruise line? At least Nikki Sixx still has his integrity, only [...]

Blur drummer runs for office
April 10th, 2007 · No Comments
According to NME, Blur drummer Dave Rowntree plans to run in a local UK council election as a Labour candidate.
Rowntree told The Independent: “I’ve been a long-standing member of the Labour party and active in local politics for a while.”
Despite his fame, NME opines that Rowntree might not have much luck as the Marleybone sector [...]
In other unnecessary reunion news, Spandau Ballet possibly to reform
April 10th, 2007 · 1 Comment
Prepare yourself for baggy pastel suits and gratuitous sax solos, as I try to avoid a ban pun incorporating the bands only US hit, “True”, Q has the scoop on these former New Romantics.
This really is just wholly unnecessary. But I guess if The Outfield is still touring, these guys could justify it too.
Who’s next, [...]
Back-end Babyshambles to issue ultimatum to Doherty
April 10th, 2007 · No Comments
Hahahaha. Looks like Pete Doherty’s band is sick of his flaky shit. Doherty allegedly disappears for weeks on end, spending time with his girlfriend Kate Moss. The band has been reduced to sneaking up on Doherty at a solo gig to confront him with a ‘Kate Moss or us’ threat. Hahahaha. Yeah, I’m sure that’ll [...]

REVIEW: Bright Eyes, Cassadaga, Saddle Creek
April 10th, 2007 · No Comments
For years, the self-involved diarrhea-diary-entry-style lyrics of Bright Eyes sent me over the edge, not to mention the fact that Conor Oberst’s affected trembling in and out of key made my skin crawl. I’m not sure of the moment I softened on the subject of Bright Eyes, but I think it was around the [...]

Convicted kid toucher, Gary Glitter, seeks new amnesty in Vietnam
April 10th, 2007 · 1 Comment
Having fled the UK for child pornography charges, glam rock joke Gary Glitter is currently trying to obtain a reduction in his three year sentence for “obscene acts with a child.” He’s hoping that a reduction could coincide with “an amnesty that marks Vietnam’s Liberation Day on April 30.”
Glitter’s been listed as a sex [...]
